Coaxial rod seals, predominantly known as Step Seals and Glyd Rings, are the pinnacle of high-speed hydraulic sealing technology. These seals consist of two components: a high-hardness PTFE sliding ring and an elastomeric O-ring energizer. This design separates the sealing function (PTFE) from the energizing function (Elastomer), allowing for a constant sealing force combined with an exceptionally low coefficient of friction. At Carlock Sealing, we engineer these profiles to ensure smooth, vibration-free rod movement even under extreme pressure.

Q: What is the main advantage of a Step Seal over a standard U-cup?
A: Carlock Sealing's Step Seals offer significantly lower friction and are much more resistant to "stick-slip." They are ideal for high-frequency cylinders and positioning systems where smooth motion is critical. Additionally, they can handle much higher pressures and speeds than standard polyurethane seals.

Q: Can coaxial seals provide zero-leakage?
A: Coaxial seals are designed to allow a microscopic, controlled oil film for lubrication. For absolute zero-leakage, especially in static conditions, Carlock Sealing often recommends a tandem arrangement where a Step Seal is used as the primary seal, followed by a secondary PU Lip Seal.
