Preloaded lip seal
Preloaded lip seals (often called Loaded U-Cups) are engineered for applications where system pressure is inconsistent. By integrating an elastomeric O-ring energizer into the seal cavity, the sealing lips are maintained in constant contact with the hardware, regardless of fluid pressure. At Carlock Sealing, we design these seals to eliminate the "weeping" effect at zero or low pressures, making them the superior choice for critical rod sealing in heavy-duty and precision hydraulics.
Q: When is a preloaded lip seal better than a standard non-preloaded U-cup?
A: Carlock Sealing recommends preloaded designs for systems that experience frequent pressure drops, low-pressure leakage, or ultra-low speeds. The internal O-ring acts as a mechanical spring, ensuring the seal stays "active" even when the fluid pressure is not enough to flare the lips.
Q: Can I customize the preload force?
A: Yes. By adjusting the cross-section of the O-ring or the geometry of the CNC-turned jacket, Carlock Sealing can fine-tune the breakout friction and sealing force to match your specific hardware tolerances and friction requirements.
