Double-acting seal
The Double-Acting Wiper represents a significant upgrade in hydraulic efficiency. Unlike single-acting variants, this profile features a dual-lip design: the external lip excludes environmental contaminants like dust and mud, while the internal-facing lip scrapes the residual oil film off the rod as it extends. At Carlock Sealing, we engineer these wipers to ensure that the lubricating film remains within the system, effectively eliminating "weeping" and keeping the external rod surface dry and clean.
Q: When is a double-acting wiper better than a single-acting one?
A: Carlock Sealing recommends double-acting wipers for systems where oil leakage (even a thin film) is unacceptable, or when the system uses a low-viscosity fluid that tends to bypass the primary rod seal. It provides a more robust sealing solution by acting as a secondary pressure-relief and oil-retention element.
Q: Does a double-acting wiper increase friction?
A: Because there are two lips in contact with the rod, friction is slightly higher than a single-acting design. However, by using Carlock Sealing's CNC turning technology, we can optimize the lip geometry and material (such as using PTFE or low-friction PU) to minimize this drag while maintaining maximum scraping efficiency.
