Turning sealing technology, also known as moldless sealing technology,
This refers to a process that utilizes turning techniques to create sealing components, such as seal rings and gaskets, from metal or non-metal materials into specific shapes and sizes to achieve a sealing effect. This is a crucial and common technology in the sealing field, minimizing production and delivery times, particularly in high-performance, customized, and demanding applications.
Common Raw Materials: Typically semi-finished tubes or rods. Common non-metallic materials include polyurethane, rubber, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyoxymethylene, nylon, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, and PEEK. Suitable raw materials can be selected based on different working conditions.
Other Production Processes: Molding and Injection Molding (not described in detail).
Common Product Types (High-Quality, High-Pressure, Wear-Resistant): Mid-to-high-end polyurethane rubber seals, Step Seals, Gly Rings, Pan Seals, and other PTFE seals, rotary seals, non-standard sizes, custom profiles, valve seals, and valve rubber.
Main Advantages of Turned Seals (Brief Overview):
1. High precision and excellent roughness (Prerequisite: High-quality turned seal manufacturer)
2. No mold required, low minimum order quantity, and fast delivery. (Prerequisite: Large inventory of semi-finished products. If out of stock, delivery is generally 2-4 weeks.)
3. No mold model restrictions, custom production is possible, and there are no profile size restrictions. (Prerequisite: Equipment capable of supporting large-scale production)
KLOCK SEALS:
1. Decades of expertise in turning seals.
2. Extensive inventory of semi-finished products, with delivery as fast as 24 hours. Small batches of multiple models are typically delivered within a week.
3. Ultra-large production equipment, capable of producing seals up to 4 meters in diameter (non-welded)
Common Issues and Influencing Factors of Turned Seals:
Issue 1. Product Dimensional Accuracy: This includes factors such as turning equipment accuracy, production temperature control, cutting tools, material density and filler uniformity, and coolant.
In addition to the accuracy of the equipment itself, the significant seasonal temperature fluctuations in China can easily lead to dimensional fluctuations in the polymer barrel, impacting material selection and dimensional quality inspection. Tool wear is common in the production of carbon fiber-filled polytetrafluoroethylene. Due to the inherent strength and hardness of carbon fiber, poor tool quality can easily lead to dimensional fluctuations during the production of a single seal, making it impossible to guarantee stable product accuracy.
Krok Seals maintains a constant temperature 5S workshop, maintaining a temperature of around 23°C regardless of winter or summer. High-quality cutting tools are used to minimize precision instability caused by temperature and tool wear.
Issue 2. Product Roughness: This includes factors such as sealing material, tool selection, and cutting parameters.
The uniformity of the sealing and filler properties of the sealing material ensures consistent roughness across the entire product. Blunt cutting tools tear and compress the material rather than cut it, resulting in noticeable plowing and burrs, leading to a rough surface. Incorrect cutting speeds and depths can cause material tearing, resulting in a rough, "gnawed" surface, or vibration (chatter) that can create chatter marks on the surface.
Kroc Seals maintains ongoing collaborations with leading domestic raw material suppliers (materials are inspected by third-party suppliers such as SGS and TUV Rheinland) and has been committed to exclusively producing turned seals for decades. This gives us unique advantages in process control and production management, along with strict quality inspection standards, resulting in products with excellent surface finish.
Issue 3: Appearance Integrity (Porosity, Flash, Scratches, etc.): Sealing materials, process control, etc.
Porosity is a problem inherent in the sealing material itself and requires careful supplier selection and rigorous source quality inspection to avoid. Tool dullness and improper cutting parameters are more likely to cause flash, while scratches and damage are more likely to involve factors such as clamping, cutting forces, and programming.
Since turned seals are high-precision industrial products, achieving high-quality, defect-free turned seals requires pre-production preparation and preventive measures; remediation is not an option. A quality control system encompassing high-quality raw material procurement, tool management, production process management, and standardized operating procedures (SOPs) is required to ensure high-quality seal production.
Krok Seals' 5S workshop management and production management have laid a solid foundation for producing mid-to-high-end seals and achieving import substitution.
Development Trends in Turned Seals:
With the rapid development of domestic precision equipment production and intelligent manufacturing technologies, the breakthrough upgrades of domestic precision equipment in turned seal production and turned seal products will achieve higher dimensional accuracy for sealing components. Leveraging the advantages of China's intelligent robotics, AI, and Industry 4.0 clusters, turning equipment will become even more intelligent, integrating automatic feeding, loading, commissioning, production, three-dimensional coordinate inspection, and packaging logistics (automated production is already in use). This will create a "dark factory" for turned seals, enabling rapid, efficient, and automated production of sealing components, improving production efficiency and product quality, and achieving greater precision and dimensional stability. At the same time, turning seal companies are focusing more resources on the development of sealing technology and theory, particularly the research and application of specialized seals for new operating conditions, such as intelligent machinery, space exploration, marine equipment, and other specialized equipment. This is inseparable from the innovation and application of new turning seal materials. In addition to specializing in the production of turning seals, Croc Seals is also a high-quality sealing solutions provider, dedicated to providing excellent products and sealing solutions to various industries at home and abroad.
